Kids Book Explorer has proudly responded to an appeal announced on best selling author Andrew Griffith’s website to assist Ukrainian refugee children as they resettle in Australia by donating a box of 70 children’s books to the Ukrainian Diaspora North Queensland organisation. These include fiction and non-fiction titles for different ages, in hard-cover and soft-cover formats across a variety of genres.
The books will be distributed to Ukrainian refugee families as well as to children in remote and regional areas in North Queensland. I am delighted at the prospect of our books ending up in the hands of children who don’t usually experience the abundance of books.

I hope that some displaced and less fortunate children will share many moments of joy exploring the books from this box, which include:
- picture books by renowned Australian authors and illustrators, including some notable and shortlisted for the Children’s Books Council of Australia Book of the Year awards;
- picture books by authors and illustrators outside Australia, including nursery rhymes and poetry, myths and legends of various civilisations, Aesop’s fables, fairy tales;
- picture books by First Nations authors and illustrators;
- non-fiction books about the natural world we inhabit, the historically significant places, artists, scientists and explorers.

I am humbled to be part of this initiative and grateful for the assistance of the Ukrainian Diaspora North Queensland in distributing my donation.

If you feel compelled to donate to this worthy cause, please follow this link to the appeal announcement, which includes contact details of the organisations collecting and channelling books donations.

That’s wonderful!!! It’s very good to help like this!!
Thank you! I think so too – books and stories should be a very good distraction for the kids traumatised by the experience of having to flee their homes…
YES of course will donate to the Sydney book Ukraine collection point….Thankyou for letting me know…Petal & Madam Ziva
Thanks, Petal! I admired your generous support of the Ukranian appeal by Oleg Lipchenko with your precious handmade masterpiece! As for books, I rang the Sydney phone number listed in that appeal and they said that they had an oversupply of books and did not need any for the time being (same story with Melbourne’s collection point list there). That’s why I’ve gone regional, the response there was far less enthusiastic…
